A Thanksgiving Poem

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours
A holiday I have learned to applore
Yes, this is a tale of woes
but only after decades of dealing with schmoes

If you work in retail you will relate, if not you may not even know what goes on behind the gate
For me I am working today at noon.
With an injured back, wrist, and a bruise on my hip, a kidney sized shape
This however is the life I choose
In the older days I would do so for you to buy a toaster and pantyhose

Now I have changed to be sure you can buy your supplies to make home made gifts with stuff from China
Yes all those home made projects you adore only got here on big containers that arrived from off our shores
They used to be things made in the USA
However now they are made by folks making a few dollars a day

All this so you can honor white folks conquering the brown
with groceries, recipes, and food made for folks fit for a crown

Those of us working and missing this family day, we only ask you not to treat us as slaves
You see, we too have family and friends, but we never see them on these important days
For we are working, stocking, signing...dripping with sweat
all so you can come in a get a cheap drawing set

So after your meal and time with your friends, keep in mind you are dealing with clerks, managers and employees alike who have given up much to give your tradition some life
With that in your head, if everything does not meet up to your expectation of nice
remember many have given up their time with the kids, friends, husband or wife

As retailers open earlier by hours or days
remember there are many who have given up time, and if you asked, they would say I would love to be with the ones I love and be able to stay

Instead I have chosen to be here in the store to help you select what you need
so please be patient as our companies believe, we should be like Santa and meet every ones needs
Most times we can, However there are things out of our control, like payroll, amount of product and what is advertised as "limited quanities" to get you in the door

So be kind even if you have to wait, or you see a salefloor person at one time all at once, helping eight
Try not to be short of patience or mad, for all that does is make people sad

If a salesperson is needlessly rude, by all means calmly let them know they may need a break
or perhaps some food
You see, for us we don't get any holidays off, we don't get to spend time with the ones that we love
Instead we choose to help you bring joy to those that you like or love

So if you are the type that does not like kaos and lines, perhaps stay home this weekend in time
Or take some valium before you get in line
